Come join PEARS as we host our first meeting/program of 2016. Dennis Ferraro will present a program entitled
Herping in the “ Land of Enchantment” : Puerto Rico.
Dennis Ferraro is a Professor of Practice and the resident herpetologist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has been a UNL faculty member since 1990.
He is originally from Connecticut, and grew up fascinated with the creatures in and around ponds near his home. By the time he was in third grade, he knew what a herpetologist was, and that he wanted to be one. “My mother started out being afraid of snakes, but after so many got loose in the house she had to learn to live with it,” he recalled. “My husbandry technique was not as refined as it is now. Now nothing gets out.”
Ferraro maintains the university’s live animal lab of native Herpetofauna for research and educational purposes, and has developed health and medical protocol for the animals’ care. He is well-known for handling snakes as he speaks, and his talks around the state typically draw large, enthusiastic crowds.
This is sure to be an interesting an educational presentation and as always FREE to the public and all ages are encouraged to attend.....Bring a Friend! If you would like to join PEARS and help support future programming and field trips, dues are minimal and will be collected the day of the program.
The meeting/Program will be held February 27th at 11:00 AM at the Missouri Department of Conservation Department (MWSU Campus) at 701 James McCarthy Drive If you have any questions feel free to call Shelly Cox at 816-261-8655 or Dr. Mark Mills at 816-271-4384
