EASTERN PLAINS GARTER SNAKE
Thamnophis radix
Constrictor- Nonvenomous
Sometimes called the Plains garter snake. This snake is not commonly found in NW Missouri but occurs in pockets innorth-central Missouri near the Missouri river. There is also an isolated population in the eastern part of the state near St. Louis where the Missouri and Mississippi rivers meet.
The snake is 15-25 inches.
This snake is very similar to the other gartersnakes, but it usually has a yellowish-orange stripe down the middle of the back.
